Yamaha NP30 Review

Another popular model is the Yamaha NP30. It’s actually much cheaper than the Casio PX-130 I talked about earlier (click here for review). It’s about half the price. This site explains why the Yamaha NP30 is cheaper. I actually bookmarked this site because it really needs some more exposure.

My opinion:

The Yamaha NP30 is really an amazing piano for its price. The sound is on par with the Yamaha P85, which is twice as expensive. It weighs about 5 kilograms. It’s just the ultimate piano for newbies since it sounds great at such a cheap price.

It literally weighs as much as a heavy baby. Talk about portable.

The downsides are really not that big of a deal. The piano only has 76 keys, which still allows you to play most songs. If it can play some Beethoven songs, then it can play enough songs for the average beginner. The only real complaint is that the keys are not fully weighted. It feels too light to many people. Once again, in my opinion, that’s not an issue, especially for beginners. It still feels fine.

I highly recommend this piano for anyone who is looking to buy one. If I don’t convince you, at least check out this site’s Yamaha NP30 review.

Casio PX-130 Review

The Casio PX-130 is one of the most popular digital piano models out right now. It’s in the top-selling section for Zzsounds, Guitarcenter, and Amazon. What makes it so popular?

My opinion:

The Casio PX-130 is so popular because it’s an entry-level model. When it comes to playing the piano, there are several levels. You can be a beginner. You can be an expert. You can also be someone entering this field. For the last group of people, this will be their type of model.

What the Casio PX-13o provides is a realistic feel and sound for an inexpensive price. Naturally, beginners or entry-level players don’t want to spend thousands of dollars on something that they just started to take interest in. Specifically for these people, the Casio brand came out with the Privia PX-130. You only need to spend a few hundred dollars and you still get a great piano.

For experts, they might not like playing this piano because it might not feel or sound realistic enough. They’re another story. They have years and years of experience so playing the piano is second nature. On the other hand, beginners don’t have any experience so while the quality of the Casio PX-130 isn’t as great as some other models, beginners can’t tell the difference. They simply think that they are playing and hearing a beautiful piano.

How to Buy a Piano

When it comes to buying a piano, people are confused. Yes, they do take into consideration the cost as with everything else. However, it’s generally just too difficult to know which piano they want to purchase, and so, they believe anything the salesman tells them.

It’s much more than that though.

I understand that it’s difficult to know what type of piano to buy because people generally just don’t have much knowledge in this field. Actually, even the people around them usually don’t have much knowledge in this field. Nevertheless, people tend to look for advice from their friends and family. Even worse, they ask the salesman for advice when all he’s trying to do is make a sale. Asking a friend who likes playing the piano may work, but he’ll tend to be more biased toward the ones he grew up playing. If he grew up playing the Yamaha piano, he tends to like those more.

In addition to this, there are just hundreds and hundreds of different types of pianos. It can become overwhelming. Which one should you buy? To narrow it down to just one can become difficult. To add onto the already complicating situation, pianos are abstract. To explain, imagine buying a laptop. By reading the specs, you can see which laptop performs better. It’s faster. The battery life is longer. It comes with Windows 7. Things like these are concrete ways of understanding which laptop to buy. However, pianos are different. The reasons to buy one piano above another can be abstract. And yet, despite looking similar, their cost can be vastly different. One piano might cost $3000 and the other might cost $100,000.

The reason people can get confused is that they complicate things. They want to learn all these fancy terms that just aren’t important. When buying a piano, all you need to do is focus on how it sounds and feels. It’s that simple. Of course, you might also want to take into consideration how it looks, but ultimately, the sound and feel of the piano are the most important factors. It doesn’t matter whether you’re buying an acoustic piano or a digital piano. For both types of pianos, just focus on the sound and the feel. You’ll notice that this will simplify things and make you much happier with your decision.
